RECORDING NEW MATERIAL
Wake To These Satellites redux is in the works!
Hey y'all... as many of you noticed, I've stopped touring for the first time in a few years! (It's a little odd to not be driving 8 hours a day.) I'm working in the studio right now, recording some of the old lost tunes and a bunch of newer ones. I think a lot of you will be surprised at the way this thing comes out sounding, too... in the meantime, there are some live mp3's up at the top of this page from a Bowery show. Enjoy, stay tuned and please hop on the mailing list so I can letchya know about my album releases and upcoming tour!
AND PRODUCING SOME...
New albums from Churton, Ana Miura, Kara Kulpa...
I've also been doing production work for some other artists worth checking out. There will be a handful of 2008 releases for your ears. First one's out of the gate, already! Churton's new eponymous EP has just been released. Go on and have a listen!
AND HYPING MY COUSIN'S NOVEL!
Zoology, Ben Dolnick's first book!
My cousin, Ben, got the brains of the family. Then he wrote a book. And y'know what? It's really, really good! It's a coming-of-age novel about a young man who drops out of school and works at the Central Park Zoo. (Story of your life, right?) Click here to order Zoology on Amazon.com

  • A big thank you to everyone who made it out to the release show at The Bowery Poetry Club and made that such a special night... I can't believe y'all sat still for four hours!
  • And thanks to Anna, Taylor and Crystal for great opening sets!

SXSW Recap
6 SXSW Shows, The Freedom Fest and a Texas Tour
My first trip to SXSW was a blast. I went down there with one show booked and ended up playing six! I guess there's something to that ol' saying that 99% of it is just showing up. SXSW was great fun, but I've got to say that my highlight of the week was a Sunday night barn-burner out in a field somewhere North of Austin, called the Freedom Fest. 6 hours of music under a tin roof in the pouring rain... that's what it's all about!
See ya next year, SXSW!

1.13.06 Fan Appreciation Night!
  • The New Year is off to a great start... I was real happy to be able to set up a 'thank you' night for those of you on the Mailling List. Hope you enjoyed the Friday the 13th secret free show with free drinks... it sure sounded like you did!

11.7.05 "After This Was Established, Everything Was Cool * The Tour Was Over and She Went Back To School."
  • The tour is over. Officially. Done. 18 months awesome months and heaps of thousands of miles later, the bell has ended round 1.
  • During the off-season, in the middle of '06 tour preparations and rehearsing with new musicians and preparing to re-record a lost album, I do have one show scheduled. This Thursday, November 17th at the Laila Lounge in Brooklyn. It's a benefit for The Ring Chromosome 20. Tix are $45 in advance, $50 day-of. You can view the Invitation here.
  • How to Breathe is currently at the printers. Although the formal release date is 2006, pre-order copies will be available in time for the holidays. "How To Breathe, the perfect way to say 'hey baby, lemme stuff your stocking.'"

10.16.05 The Wickedest Urbanest Cowboy of the East!
  • Run a Google search on "Wicked Witch of the West Socks". Now run a Google Image search for Urban Cowboy. How strange is that?!? It must be an optical illusion, or something.
  • New tunes added to * The Words Page * for the lyricianados.
  • * The Press Page * has some new write-ups. *blush*
  • The wrap-up shows of this tour have been so much fun. Especially meeting cool people in some hidden Midwestern cities (well, hidden to me, at least). Normal, Cincinnati, Stevens Point... what a treat it's been to get out and explore a bit!
See ya soon... Dave
9.7.05 New Orleans Benefit, Austin Sessions, New Shows Added
  • Given the Tragedy in New Orleans, I thought it was appropriate to put together a benefit show that was centered around sharing my experiences in New Orleans with you. I've put together a 90-minute show of songs I wrote in or inspired by New Orleans, as well as some freshly relevant covers. I'll be telling some of the stories that made the city what it was for me throughout the afternoon. We'll also have information on ways you can help, as well as a donation, clothing and food drive. Please come join in this tribute at Pete's Candy Store on Saturday, September 17th, 5pm-7pm. Thanks, Dave
  • The Midpoint Music Festival has issued a showcase invitation. Cincinnati folks and folks attending the festival, come on over to The Courtyard on Saturday, September 24th, 9pm.
  • Album Update: The studio in New Orleans is under water right now, but many of the files from the sessions have been backed up. Reconstructing the record will take some time, so we've decided to begin releasing some older sessions as discs. The Austin Sessions, February '05 will be on sale at shows now and soon online and in stores.

9.1.05 New Orleans: I'm Safe, The City Could Use Your Help
  • Thank you to everybody who expressed concern for my safety. I left New Orleans just before the storm landed and it seems like my friends are mostly okay, as well. But a lot of people were not so lucky.

It would be impossible for me to list on this page all of the ways that New Orleans has made each of our lives better. From the charmed days of those of us who have spent time there to the magnificient array of cultural exports (Jazz Music, Creole Cooking, Mardi Gras Festivities, etc), this is a culture that has contributed immeasurable to our zest for life and it's something we can't afford to lose. So take the fifteen bucks you were about to spend on that CD and give it to the American Red Cross, who are doing invaluable work for the relief and recouperation of The Crescent City.

8.21.05 Northwest Debut and Jews Have Horns!
  • Attention Oregon: Dave will make his Northwest debut at MusicFestNW in Portland, OR. The Dixie Tavern, Saturday, September 10th... doors 7pm, music begins 8pm, Dave 9pm!
  • The Cutting Edge's NewWorks Showcase in New Orleans gave birth to another first - Dave Golden with horns. Those of you who were with us through the night and into the morning know what we're talkin' about! You just might see some horns turn up in the future...

6.18.05 Summer Gatherings!
Dave will be on a lighter tour schedule this summer, to make time for more time in the studio. You can also catch him performing at these summer events...

  • The Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis, July 21-23
  • The Millenium Music Conference in Harrisburg, June 23-26
  • The Cutting Edge Music Conference in New Orleans, August 19-21
  • The Roots Music Gathering in New Orleans, August 19-21
  • The Motor City Music Conference in Detroit, April 12-15
Detroit's past, but thought we'd give them love, anyway! Wassup, Uncle Ray!

5.14.05 Mercy Driver!
Dave and some of his fellow singer/songwriting cohorts have formed an underground supergroup, called Mercy Driver.
4.18.05 Last NYC Shows of the Spring: Online Tix Available
Dave will be playing in two major singer/songwriter nights in NYC before hitting the road for the summer. Please come out and see one or both of these fantastic evenings:
3.11.05 New Orleans Disc, Special All Ages NYC/Chicago Shows, Spring Tour

  • NYC ALL AGES SHOW: Monday March 21st I'll be at the Bowery Poetry Club at 8pm with Friends Band. One of the best rooms in the city, one of the best bands in the city and me. Well, two outta three ain't bad. ;-)
  • CHICAGO ALL AGES SHOW: Sunday, April 3rd at Burkhart Studio with Shelley Miller. We'll be videotaping this show for the Dave and Shelley video!
